Curriculum

We provide a structured and child initiated programme that caters for all needs, as a group as well as individuals. As well as using Te Whaariki (The Early Childhood Curriculum) we use part of the Reggio Emilia Project approach which is about teaching children the whole picture, by letting them experience their own learning through artwork. The topic is determined by the child’s interests and goes on until that interest has subsided and another topic is chosen. There are also group music times and mat times along with periods of time that are child initiated. All children attending the Pre-School have a file on their progress and development; along with observations, samples of artwork and photographs. These can be seen by their parents/caregivers at any time.

Our aim for the children at the Pre-School is for them to leave the centre fully prepared for school – socially, academically, emotionally and physically. To be able to take all the skills they have learnt to school and develop them further. Our aim is to give the children the skills they require to do this.

Meals
We supply morning tea, afternoon tea and lunch. Packed lunch is served 3 days a week to help the children prepare for school and on the other days there is cooked lunch e.g. Pizza, sausage rolls, soup, made by our full-time cook.

Ratio
1 adult to 10 children
